The Fort Mill 10-13 Club is hosting its 4th annual “Remember Our Heroes 5K” on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC. This year’s event carries special meaning as it marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Talk of the Town Carolinas host Patti Mercer sat down with club members to find out what to expect on race day.
About the Fort Mill 10-13 Club
The code “10-13” is a radio signal meaning “officer needs assistance,” and it is the foundation of everything this club stands for. The Fort Mill 10-13 Club unites retired law enforcement officers, retired military members, and active law enforcement with a shared mission: to support the law enforcement and military community in York County and beyond. The club has grown to 150 members and continues to expand its reach each year.

Event Details: September 12, 2026
The 4th annual Remember Our Heroes 5K takes place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, the day after the 9/11 anniversary. The club chose that date intentionally so the whole community could come out and participate without the solemnity of September 11th itself. Registration and check-in open at 8:00 AM and the starting gun fires at 9:00 AM. The event is held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Rd E., Fort Mill, SC 29715.
The route runs through the Kingsley Park Corporate Center, winding past Domar, Childless Klein, and Novant, all of which have generously supported the event. It is a timed, chip-based race with medals awarded across 14 age categories, plus participation medals for every finisher. Past years have seen a fastest time of just six minutes, and walkers typically finish in about 45 minutes.
A Special Feature: A Restored 9/11 Fire Truck
One of the most powerful additions to this year’s event is the appearance of a fire truck that was destroyed on September 11, 2001. Retired firefighters purchased the truck and fully restored it, and it will be on display at the event for attendees to see up close. It is a remarkable piece of living history, especially for younger community members who were not yet born in 2001.
We want it to be a commemoration so that we remember all the first responders that still serve our communities today. We want to make sure that we support them, especially in this day and age. They need our support more than ever.

Free Entry for All First Responders
As a thank-you to the people who serve, all active and retired law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and military members can register and run for free. General admission is $45 for adults and $20 for children ages 6 to 12. T-shirts are provided to adult participants while supplies last. As of the taping of this episode, 157 runners had already signed up, with the club expecting to surpass 200 by race day.
Vendors, Volunteers, and Sponsors
Race day will feature a variety of vendors on site, including orthopedics, massage, and beauty services. It is the perfect way to recover after crossing the finish line. The club is also still accepting bronze and silver level sponsors. If you are interested in supporting the event or simply want to donate to the cause, there is a GoFundMe available as well.
Volunteers are needed and welcome. Sign up through RunSignUp by clicking the volunteer option on the race page. In past years the event has drawn around 115 volunteers. You can be assigned to a spot along the route or help manage the main event area on race day.
