Foundation announces 36 events in South Carolina
ROCK HILL, SC – Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming the lives of over 600,000 Americans each year. According to recent reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 200,000 of these deaths could be prevented.* More than half of the deaths reported happened to women and men younger than 65 years of age. Studies show that for those who experience a heart attack before the age of 65, 80% will not survive the first event. In an effort to help more South Carolinians learn their risk for heart disease, and how to win the fight against our number one killer, The Heart2Heart Foundation has partnered with healthcare providers, community organizations, churches and civic groups to provide free heart health screenings and educational programs throughout Heart Month 2018.
The nonprofit organization, headquartered in Rock Hill, South Carolina, will be hosting and participating in more than 36 events in February. In 2015, the all-volunteer organization worked with the Office of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to expand the successful screening program created with Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill to other areas of the state. Since launching the Statewide Screening Day campaign, which quickly grew from the third Thursday in February to include the entire month, the initiative has provided heart disease risk assessments to more than 1,700 women and men in February of 2015, 2016 and 2017. Since the launch of The Heart2Heart Foundation in 2013, the organization has helped provide free heart disease risk assessments to approximately 5,800 women and men.
Participants through the #HowsYourTicker Statewide Heart Health Screening Campaign will receive a free basic heart health screening to include a check of cholesterol (lipid profile), blood pressure, glucose, BMI and review of risk factors for heart disease. Through these screenings, participants are assessed for risk level for heart attack and stroke and will receive information about additional screenings such as Coronary Artery Calcium Score as well as free educational materials to help them address current risk factors.

? Proceeds fund the organization?s #HowsYourTicker heart health screening campaigns, educational programs, advance screening scholarships for at-risk women and the Back2School Block Party held in August
? The event features recognition of the 2017 award recipients for the contributions toward the success of the Back2School Block Party which provided free screenings, resourced and school supplies to more than 2,000 students in 2016/2017
