The Fort Mill Community Playhouse needs a new home and is setting the stage for a new future. On August 29th, 2017, the FMCP kicked off their capital campaign to raise funds to buy a new permanent location. Talk of the Town Carolinas attended the Campaign Cocktails event at the dairy Barn to learn more about the Playhouse and what they are trying to accomplish. Patti interviewed FMCP President Martha Ferguson, Board Member Joyce Sullivan, and State Representative Raye Felder who is serving as the capital campaign?s Co-Chairperson.
The Fort Mill Community Playhouse began under a tent at the Leroy Springs Complex in 1980. Next, they performed in Fort Mill High School and in a Leroy Springs-owned building on Banks Street until a year and a half ago, they leased and are performing at 220 Main Street. Their current home has a small stage and fit up to six actors on and has an audience capacity of 67. The new space, at 108 Spratt Street would offer a bigger stage, an audience of 200, and the ability to rent space for other community functions. The price tag for the new space is one million dollars.
The Fort Mill Community Playhouse has been able for 36 years to enhance the area with great plays, musicals, support other arts, and youth camp programs. With your funding support, they can continue their mission to enrich our community the arts in a permanent home. The FMCP is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
