This Talk of the Town Fort Mill video features the Town of Fort Mill, SC Memorial Day ceremony held in Veterans Park May 30, 2016. Patti Mercer interviewed Fort Mill Parks & Rec Director Brown Simpson, Mayor Guynn Savage, and Fort Mill Band Director John Pruitt who was the Keynote speaker. This is the 9th year for the Memorial Day ceremony which began after the opening of the Fort Mill Veterans Park near Main Street. The theme of the ceremony was Fort Mill remembers our veterans.

The Fort Mill High School Band took an inaugural trip to Normandy France April 1st 2016 to perform in the Normandy America Cemetery. Band Director John Pruitt tells us how the experience changed the lives of the 132 band students that went to Normandy. Link to FMHS Band website -?fortmillhsband.com

People and organizations that took part in the May 30, 2016 ceremony were Fort Mill Mayor Guynn Savage, Johnny Helms American Legion Post 43, Posting of Colors Ron Walley, Commander Honor Guard American Legion Post 43, Pledge of Allegiance Dale Moses, VFW Post 9138, National Anthem Jill Fuller, Music Director Sugar Creek Elementary, Keynote Speaker John Pruitt Fort Mill Band Director -Normandy’s Legacy Resonates with Fort Mill Band Students, “Amazing Grace” Joe Hardy, Bag Pipes, Recognition of Gold Star Mothers Lil Coleman, Gold Star Mothers Minnnie Stegall, Diane Massey and Robyn Dudley, Laying of the Wreath Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post 43, Rifle Volley and Taps Honor Guard, American Legion Post 43.
