Gold Hill Middle School won 1st place in the Baxter Village YMCA Polar Plunge held in March 2021 and was also the top school fundraiser in the state. Patti Mercer interviewed GHMS Principal Richard Eppes to find out why they were so successful raising money for Special Olympics in South Carolina.
The Fort Mill Police Department, Tega Cay Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Department sponsor a Polar Plunge at the Baxter Village YMCA to raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics South Carolina. The 2021 Polar Plunge was held on March 6th. Many Fort Mill schools participated in the plunge. Gold Hill Middle has participated for the last several years raising about $6,000 annually. This year Gold Hill Middle raised $12,518.
