Historic Brattonsville in McConnells, SC is part of the Culture & Heritage Museums in York County (chmuseums.org). At Brattonsville, you can Experience living history, including the African American story, at the 775-acre Revolutionary War site. On site is the Bratton Plantation, owned and lived on by three generations of the Bratton family.
The Talk of the Town Carolinas crew visited Historic Brattonsville on one of their special event weekends May 21st 2017 called Liberty or Death! featuring the Revolutionary War in the Carolinas. Hosted by 4th Battalion No.6 Co. Royal Artillery and Historic Brattonsville. Host Patti Mercer interviewed Museum Manager Kevin Lynch and several re-enactors to find out more about Brattonsville and the revolutionary war battles fought in North and South Carolina.
The Liberty or Death event features reenactments of three major Revolutionary War battles fought in South Carolina: King?s Mountain, Camden and Eutaw Springs. These battles represent both Patriot and British victories. Over the two-day event, visitors saw cannons, mounted cavalry, uniformed British and American soldiers and militiamen take the field. Other activities included cannon and musket firing demonstrations, military drill for kids, battlefield tours, special presentation, and hands-on activities.
