The City of Rock Hill is hosting the 2017 UCI BMX World Championships at the Novant Health BMX Supercross Track on July 25-30, 2017. Talk of the Town of the Carolinas went to the?Opening Ceremony & Community Kickoff Saturday night at Fountain Park in Old Town Rock Hill to capture the ceremony. Patti Mercer was the emcee and we interviewed City of Rock Hill Mayor Doug Echols, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, US Senator Tim Scott, US Congressman Ralph Norman, and Director of Corporate Communications for the SC Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism Dawn Dawson-House. The event in Rock Hill is expected to bring an estimated 3,700 riders and 20,000 spectators from 48 countries. Over 1,000 people from Rock Hill and the surrounding are have volunteered to asset during the championship. By all accounts, this is the largest international event ever held in SC. First time in US since 2001.?Projected direct economic impact of $13 million for the region. The Opening Ceremonies and Community Kickoff was July 22, 2017 at 6 PM in downtown Rock Hill. Practice Days are July 23-24, 2017. Racing is July 25-29, 2017 at Novant Health BMX Supercross Track, 1307 Riverwalk Parkway, Rock Hill. Racing finale July 29, 2017 with fireworks.
Novant Health BMX Supercross Track is a world?class destination facility for amateur to elite athletes; opened in 2014. The Facility is owned by the City of Rock Hill and operated by the City of Rock Hill Parks Recreation and Tourism Department. The track is the first Olympic?caliber BMX training facility open to the general public on the East Coast. The track is built to standards set by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
