The Rock Hill-York County Airport held an open house event on August 18th, 2018. The spectator turn out was larger than expected. Talk of the Town Carolinas visited the event to show you what the one house was all about. Host Patti Mercer interviewed Airport Director Steven Gould who gave us the run down of the planned activities and exhibits at the Airport?s open house. Patti also interviewed Skydive Carolinas & Vortex Skydiving Exhibitions staff Steve Vaughn and Pam Anderson to find out more about their organization.
The event was free for the public and was located at the Rock Hill-York County Airport at 550 Airport Road Rock Hill, SC 29732. The event included a wide variety of vintage and classic airplanes, helicopters, and motor vehicles. Kids aged 8-17 will have a chance at free airplane rides as part of the Young Eagles program provided by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). There were tours of Skytech’s maintenance facility. FlyCarolina had a flight simulator available to operate and experience. Various flyovers were performed. Unfortunately because of low clouds and higher than expected winds the skydiving jump by the Skydive Carolina team was canceled.
The Rock Hill-York County Airport helps support our area, bringing approximately $40.5 million a year in economic impact. Next year it will be the Airport?s 60th birthday. The airport staff will plan a larger event including an airshow. Next year?s event will most likely be held sometime in September 2019.
