Talking About The Clover Area Assistance Center’s Gala 2018

On this week’s Talk of the Town Carolinas, we visited the Clover Area Assistance Center’s (CAAC) 15th annual fundraising gala. This year’s CAAC Gala theme was “Talk Derby To Me” inspired by the Kentucky Derby. The night located at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont, NC. featured Mint Juleps, Kentucky Bourbon, Debry style hats and fascinators, live and silent auctions, wine bottle pulls, photo booth, sit down dinner and more. Patti Mercer interviewed the Clover Area Assistance Center’s Executive Director Karen Van Vierssen, Gala co-chairs Cynthia Thompson, Charlotte Warner, and Lake Wyllie Liquors Matt Mugavero to find out more about the gala and the services provided by CAAC.

The Clover Area Assistance Center (CAAC) is located at 1130 Highway 55 East, Clover SC. They serve the Clover area residents in need of food, financial assistance, and health services. Their assistant reach is the entire Clover School District boundaries. If a person’s needs go beyond the scope of CAAC’s programs, they utilize a network of partners throughout York County to ensure that help can be found. Services are provided by over 80 volunteers. And because of the generous support of the community including proceeds from their annual Gala, they have been able to build and maintain one of the largest food pantries in western York County. Each month, CACC provides food, paper products, and toiletry items to over 300 families. CAAC provides financial assistance for such things as utilities, kerosene, propane, prescriptions, and other basic needs. They also have limited medical care and a full range of dental services for uninsured adults. Transportation is a major issue for many residents in CAAC’s predominantly rural community. Most service organizations and government offices are located in Rock Hill or other outlying areas. This makes getting help from these organizations difficult for those who lack or have limited access to transportation. CAAC’s solution is to bring those services to Clover Area Assistance Center. The Clover Area Assistance Center is located at 1130 Highway 55 East, Clover SC. Food Pantry and Financial Services hours are Monday & Wednesday 1:00 – 4:00PM & Thursday 9:00 – 12:00PM. Food Donations and Deliveries hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays 8:00am – 5:00pm.

CAAC’s Gala was held at the beautiful Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. The Botanical Gardens are a 400 acres preserve of rolling meadows, woodlands, and lake front between Lake Wylie, SC. and Belmont, NC .
