What is the Tega Cay 1982 campaign, the Forever Foundation and where is Catawba Park? Talk of the Town Carolinas host Patti Mercer interviewed the Forever Foundation Board Chair Anthony Ruffalo and Tega Cay Mayor George Sheppard to find out more about the 1982 Forever fundraising campaign supporting Catawba Park.
The City of Tega Cay was born over 35 years ago and in celebration of the city?s birth and keeping with the tradition of planned growth, Tega Cay has announced the next phase of Catawba Park. Catawba Park is envisioned to be the preeminent recreational destination for individuals of all ages. To kick start the fundraising efforts and drive awareness for Catawba Park, the Forever Foundation started the 1982 fundraising campaign.
1. Donate: The city is now accepting donations in the amount of $19.82 (yes, the same year as the city?s birth). As a donor, your name will be featured on our 1982 donors? page, mentioned in Tega Cay social media and Tega Cay Rewind Newsletter. To donate please click here or stop by City Hall/Beach and Swim Center.
2. Spread the Word: Proudly display the 1982 ?Destination Tags? on your cars, boats and golf cars to help drum up excitement about the 1982 campaign and jumpstart our Catawba Park fundraising efforts.
The Tega Cay Forever Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization and was established because the City recognizes parks & open spaces are a major part of what makes Tega Cay a special place to live, work and play. It is the mission of the Foundation to enhance the quality of life for citizens of all ages by promoting, providing for and maintaining parks & open spaces which strengthen and unite the community. In that effort, the Foundation?s purpose is to serve as the fundraising arm of the City of Tega Cay for the endowment of capital projects, and educational, recreational, and cultural community initiatives/events, by requesting, receiving, holding, investing, administering, granting and disbursing gifts of funds and property, and making expenditures to or for the benefit of the parks and open spaces owned by the City.
The future Catawba Park – Located on the Catawba River, immediately below the Hydro-electric facility on Lake Wylie, the 61-acre Catawba Park will be a regional destination point once completed. Catawba Park is envisioned to be a premier active and passive recreation facility serving from around the region. Central to the design and operation of the proposed facility will be practices/techniques incorporated to make Catawba Park an environmentally friendly, energy efficient facility.
Catawba Park will be located on New Gray Rock Road and will house baseball/softball fields, multi-purpose fields, walking trails, Catawba River access, playgrounds, open space and picnic shelters. This park is being made possible thanks to partnerships between the City, Duke Energy and Clear Springs.
