Update 7/1/2020. Here is the message posted on the City of Tega Cay website – “Based on this most recent information received from the state and SCDHEC, City Council and I have made the decision to forgo this year’s July 4th Parade”, said Mayor David O’Neal. “While we are disappointed to not be able to hold it this year, we feel it’s in the best interest of our residents.” The Fireworks Celebration will still be held on Saturday, July 4th at 9:30 p.m. Updated information on the safety and control plan will be sent out on Thursday, July 2nd.

There are not many places or events to see live fireworks in the Charlotte Metro this year. One city on the the small list of cities that have not cancelled their 4th of July events is the City of Tega Cay, SC. Some have challenged the City Leaders decision to keep a few events planned during the COVID-19 outbreak, but Tega Cay also celebrates it’s incorporated birthday on the 4th. Here is the latest’s info about Tega Cay’s 4th of July events:
Normally the 4th of July in Tega Cay is a full day of many events, but this year there are 2 main events. The land parade and the fireworks celebration.
Land Parade – As of 7/2/2020 the Parade has been canceled. The parade will begin at 9 AM sharp when it departs from Tega Cay Elementary School and down Tega Cay Drive towards Runde Park. Expect delays on Tega Cay Drive until around 10:30 AM. The outbound side is not closed, so use extreme caution when crossing Tega Cay Dr.
Fireworks – This year’s fireworks show will be held Saturday, July 4 beginning at 9:30 p.m. (weather permitting). The fireworks are being shot from the top of the driving range near the Tega Cay Golf Club. They can be viewed from all around the peninsula and Lake Wylie.
Traffic controls prior to and during the show this year will be different from previous years. The parking lot at the Tega Cay Golf & Conference Center will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Once that parking lot is full, only people who live on or off of Molokai Drive will be allowed through the ID check point. Anyone not living on or off of Molokai Drive will be directed to Runde Park or back to the Tega Cay Elementary School parking lots.
Once the parking lot at Runde Park is full, an ID check point will be established at Tega Cay Elementary School (TCES). This is being done in an effort to control traffic on Tega Cay Drive. Officers will direct everyone at that time that does not live on the peninsula to park at TCES until those parking lots are full. Only people who have ID showing they live on the peninsula will be allowed to continue to their home. Once TCES parking lots are full, anyone not living on the peninsula will be turned around until the firework show is completed and outbound traffic is underway.
No one will be allowed to park on TEGA CAY DRIVE. This includes the shoulders of the road and the median.
The ID check points are necessary to prohibit traffic safety issues with road blockages, and to ensure emergency personnel are able to respond to any calls for service. If you live on the peninsula or in the Molokai Drive area and are expecting guests make sure they have arrived by 6:00 p.m. to avoid any issues. All walkers, golf-carters and bikes will be allowed to travel to the show. Parking lots will NOT be limited to “residents only” or “peninsula residents only.” They will strictly be on a first come, first served basis. Information related to the City’s other July 4th activities will be released later this week.
