9 Tega Cay Council Candidates Are Busy Promoting Their Campaigns

The November 5, 2013 election year is considered to be a slow off year election at a national level, but in Tega Cay, things are heating up with nine candidates.

There are 3 council seats up for election this year out of 5. The Mayor’s seat and 2 council seats, which are Dottie Hersey and Steve Perkins.

Three candidates filed for mayor in Tega Cay. Incumbent George Sheppard is running for re-election, current Councilman Ron Kirby and challenger Larry Pritchard are vying for Sheppard’s seat. Note, whether or not Ron Kirby wins the mayor’s seat, Ron will remain on the council. If Ron Kirby wins, a special election after the Nov 5th election would take place to fill his current council seat according to the York County voters registration and elections department.

Six candidates filed for the two council seats ? Incumbent Dottie Hersey, Lisa Marie Johnson, Walter Krasinski, David O?Neal, Jennifer Stalford and Phillip Zima. Steve Perkins did not seek reelection.

Thirty days before the election, campaign signs were allowed up in the city. It did not take long for a flood of signs to pop up everywhere.

Local news articles have focused mainly on the mayors’ race. Recent articles or news coverage from CN2 have claimed all 3 candidates have a different message. The issues seem to be the same among the 3 candidates, ?they are just stating their opinions of the issues differently.
